About Mary Beth Lang

 Mary Beth Lang has published works in a variety of media including short stories, essays and video scripts. She has worked with adolescents for over twenty years as a speech therapist and loves writing for them. DARE DIARY is Mary Beth’s debut novel and was a finalist in the Chicago Writers Association First Chapter Contest. She is a member of the Chicago Writers Association and the SCBWI.

Mary Beth Lang lives in Wheaton, Illinois near her awesome daughter, Caitlin. 

She has a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in Radio/TV/Film and a master's from Northern Illinois University in Communicative Disorders. Her many life adventures include living in Norway, producing some of the first private television in that country, camping in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and establishing a scholarship for college-bound writers in memory of her son, Erik.

Dare Diary

DARE DIARY is the story of what really happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke. After 18-year-old Mel's sister tries to kill herself, Mel discovers that their grandmother has been harboring an incredible secret: the diary of Virginia Dare. 

Follow Mel as she learns how 19 white and native people survived a massacre in 1589 and formed a community that could not be broken. This as she tries to unearth why her sister would want to end her life. She knows the two are linked, but how?

Invisible

INVISIBLE was published as a short story in February of 2023. It is currently being developed into a middle grade novel. 

Jay is starting middle school - his eighth new school in six years, thanks to his single mom's nomadic job. Sue is the ghost of a girl who died at the school in 1973. When the two discover they can see and talk to each other it becomes clear they found each other for a reason. They team up to solve one mystery before tackling the bigger issue: Why is Sue still here after more than 50 years?
